Dr. Robert G. O'Meally (New York, NY)
The Zora Neale Hurston Professor of Literature and Director of the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University, Robert O'Meally is the author or editor of many books, including Lady Day: The Many Faces of Billie Holiday, The Jazz Cadence of American Culture (awarded an ASCAP–Deems Taylor prize), and Uptown Conversation: The New Jazz Studies. For the Smithsonian, he scripted the documentary film Duke Ellington: Beyond Category and was principal catalogue writer for Seeing Jazz, an exhibit on jazz painting and literature. He was nominated for a Grammy as co-producer of the 1998 five-CD box set The Jazz Singers.
